Springtime in Haynesville: 1860 - Step back in time to the to the spring of 1860 when the town was Haynesville and not Johnson City. Members of the 61st Confederate Infantry and other reenactors will portray civilians discussing local and national events that will lead to the Civil War. The event will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Admission is free but donations will be used to support the site's Civil War Sesquicentennal activities. |

Andre Michaux Day - Join our French botanist portrayed by Charlie Williams as he tells of his travels to the home of Col. John Tipton on May 15,1795. "Breakfast with the Birds" will be at 8:00 a.m. and will be followed by a birdwalk led by Bryon Stevens and members of the Herndon Chapter of the TN Ornithological Society to identify the variety of birds on the site. Charlie Williams will appear at 10:00 a.m. as Andre Michaux to tell of his travels and what plants he has found in Northeast TN. The at 11:00 a.m. Michaux will visit with Col. & Mrs. Tipton in the cabin for a light lunch. Visitors are invited to taste a typical lunch of the 1700s and listen to their conversation. Art Lang & Cathy Ciolac will be their special country music on the front porch of the cabin. At 12:30 p.m. follow in the steps of Michaux and take a walk along the trail to discover the many native plants. Ongoing activities include a plant sale/swap and exploration in the site's gardens. Your $2.00 donation will support the historic gardens and Andre Michaux Trail. Come and ejoy the spring! |

Summers Past History Program - An exciting program for children age 6-12 will begin on June 7 and run for six weeks. Three different sessions will be offered and repeated in July. Children learn about our region's history through historic-based crafts, drama, storytelling,and games.

Sorghum & Scutching Festival - With the mules running the cane mill, the sweet green liquid will be boiled down over an open fire furnance into sweet dark sorghum molasses. Visitors are encouraged to help. Using flax grown in the field garden, volunteers will demonstrate the process of producing flax for spinning into linen thread. First they will use the flax brake and schtching board to remove the outer layer of the flax straw. A hetchel removes what remains to produce flax that can be spun. Flax will then be spun into thread and woven into linen. Music, old time games, apple butter making, and other harvest activities will be part of the day's festival. Soupbeans and corn bread will be available for a small fee. The event will begin at 10:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. Admission is $4.00 for adults and $2.00 for children 12 and under. |

Stories from the Pumpkin Patch - A fun time for the whole family with incredible storytellers, music, tractor-pulled hayrides, open fire hot dog roast with all the trimmings, and a spooky tour through the historic house. The event will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Stories geared to younger children will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m and the scarier stories from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Rain or shine, it is a fun event. Admission is $6.00 for adults and $3.00 for kids 12 and under. |

Visions of Christmas: 1860 - So much was happening during the fall of 1860. Join the Haynes family as they celebrate the holidays and learn of the events that were leading our nation to the Civil War. The historic buildings will be decorated with fresh greenery and the candles and oil lamps will lend a special glow. Open hearth cooking in the cabin will let you get a taste of a holiday dinner in 1860. In the museum, make paper ornaments and enjoy holiday music and punch and cookies. Reservations suggested. The event will be from 2:00-6:00 p.m. Admission is $6.00 for adults and $3.00 for 12 and under. |
